When you or your child are waiting for, or have recently received, a diagnosis for a neurodivergent condition, such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia or dyspraxia amongst others, it can stir up many emotions.
You may feel relief — finally having an explanation for why you’ve always felt different. You might also feel uncertain, worried, or overwhelmed about what this means for the future. Parents and caregivers often carry their own concerns, questions, and hopes alongside their child’s experience. A diagnosis does not change who you or your child are. It offers understanding — a way of making sense of experiences, strengths, and challenges. With the right support, it can be empowering and validating.
As a counsellor with personal insight into how neurodivergence can shape everyday life, I understand the worries, the relief, and everything in between. I offer a safe, compassionate space for individuals, parents, caregivers, and young people to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace.
Children and young people can be deeply affected by adverse childhood experiences. Early trauma or ongoing stress can influence emotional wellbeing, relationships, and even aspects of development. Counselling offers a supportive space where a child or young person can begin to process their experiences safely and make sense of their world.
Counselling for children and young people differs from adult therapy because it is tailored to their stage of development. Sessions may include creative approaches such as play, art, or other expressive tools alongside talking therapy, helping young people communicate in ways that feel natural and comfortable for them.
As a children and young people’s counsellor, I prioritise creating clear boundaries and a safe, consistent environment. Building trust is at the heart of the therapeutic relationship, allowing each child or young person to feel heard, respected, and understood.
Counselling and therapy can offer adults a meaningful opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings, gain clarity, and strengthen emotional wellbeing. At different stages of life, you may find yourself reflecting on past experiences, considering the impact of ageing, or thinking about what you want for your future. Therapy provides a supportive space to make sense of these reflections and move forward with greater understanding and intention.
Despite growing awareness, mental health struggles can still feel difficult to speak about. Many people experience pressure to appear strong, capable, and silent in the face of challenges. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what you are carrying, without fear of criticism or expectation.
Throughout our lives, we move through many roles and relationships — as a partner, parent, sibling, friend, colleague, or carer. Each relationship can bring its own expectations, responsibilities, and emotional complexities. Navigating these roles can sometimes lead to confusion, sadness, frustration, or anger, alongside moments of fulfilment and joy. In therapy, we can gently explore relationship patterns, conflicts, and emotional responses, helping you understand how they influence the way you think, feel, and behave.
Anxiety and depression are among the most common mental health concerns and can affect you physically, emotionally, and mentally. They can feel overwhelming and, at times, isolating. Using evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs, we can work together to explore the roots of these feelings or focus on the present moment, building resilience, self-awareness, and healthier coping strategies.
My aim is to create a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and respect, supporting you to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and self-understanding.

At Valley View Counselling, I believe that everyone has the ability to lead a happy and fulfilling life. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that mental and emotional well-being are integral to overall health, and that therapy can be a powerful tool for achieving this balance.
